Frequently Asked Questions

I HAVE ZERO MARTIAL ARTS EXPERIENCE, CAN I STILL ATTEND A CLASS?
Absolutely you can! The only way to learn something is to try it. All of our classes are open to all skill levels. The only way to improve a skillset is with practice practice practice.

If you are completely new to Martial Arts, we recommend you try out our Basics classes.  And please remember - everyone started with zero experience at some point! Our coaches and your fellow students included. Don't let that stop you from trying!

DO I NEED TO RESERVE A SPOT IN CLASS BEFOREHAND?
No, you don’t need to RSVP or reserve a spot beforehand. If it’s your first time at the gym, just come in 10 mins before the class starts so you can get registered and introduced to the gym.

I DON’T WANT TO FIGHT OR HAVE PEOPLE HIT ME, CAN I STILL TRAIN?
Everyone has their own passions and goals, we’ll help you achieve them in any way we can. Training doesn’t mean you have to fight. If you’re not comfortable with something, just let us know and we’ll adjust. Sparring is completely optional.

WHAT CLOTHING SHOULD I WEAR?
All of our martial arts classes are done barefoot. Shoes are removed before stepping onto the mats.

Gi-BJJ: a gi is required for these classes, we have loaner gis you can rent until you get your own.

Kickboxing: any comfortable workout clothes are fine for kickboxing.

No-Gi BJJ / MMA: comfortable workout clothes that don’t have exposed zippers or buckles, they might scratch our partners or the mats. Loose t-shirts or tank tops tend to get fingers and toes caught in them, we recommend wearing tights and compression shirts.

I DON’T HAVE MMA GEAR YET, CAN I STILL TRAIN?
Yes, we have plenty of loaner gear you can borrow for the class. We have Boxing gloves, MMA gloves, shin guards, and BJJ gis. You can borrow our equipment to take a few classes before you decide to commit and buy your own gear.

I HAVE GEAR/CLOTHES FROM ANOTHER GYM, IS IT OK FOR ME TO WEAR THEM AT CHOP & CHOPS?
We welcome you to wear any gear you feel comfortable in, as long as it is clean and safe to wear. Wearing gear with another gym’s name or logo is absolutely not a problem for us.

WHAT IF I’M NOT READY TO COMMIT TO A MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP?
There are no activation fees, cancellation fees, or long-term contracts. You are welcome to pay for classes individually, purchase one of our specials, or take advantage of our unlimited monthly prices, knowing you can cancel at any time.

I’M FROM ANOTHER GYM, DO YOU ALLOW DROP-INS?
Drop-ins are always welcome, regardless of school affitiation.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE MYSELF FOR A CLASS?
Clean clothes and clean bodies are required for every class. To help keep everyone safe from accidental scratches, please have your fingernails and toenails trimmed and remove jewelry before class.
